Gender expert report for the project “The changing face of disability”

From September 2007 until July 2008, the Federal Ministry for Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection ran a project on “The changing face of disability” (Invalidität im Wandel). The purpose of the project was to discuss different aspects of disability such as legal aspects, health promotion, secondary prevention, rehabilitation, as well as interfaces with the employment market. Apart from preparing a review of the status quo, the project was primarily concerned with developing approaches and actions required to bring about change.

In the course of the project, L&R Social Research was commissioned to contribute a gender-based analysis to the project, which had thus far been neglected.

Specifically, L&R was commissioned to provide:

  • an analysis of the data situation from a gender perspective,
  • a review of the status quo from a gender perspective, and
  • the development of courses of action from a gender perspective.

The expert report provided was integrated into the various chapters of the final report, which is now available as a book. with the title ” The changing face of disability”

The following chapters were written by Nadja Bergmann and Claudia Sorger:
“Status quo aus Gender-Perspektive” (Status quo from a gender perspective), “Analyse aus Gender-Perspektive” (Analysis from a gender perspective) and “Optionen und Notwendigkeiten aus Gender-Perspektive” (Options and requirements from a gender perspective).
