“Daddy’s Month” in Austria – Exchange of Good Practice Concerning the Role of Men in Gender Equality EU Exchange of Good Practices on Gender Equality

Under the EU-Programm “Progress” seminars and papers are organised to support European countries to exchange on good practices in the field of gender equality. On 28-29 of October 2014 Finland hosted a seminar in Helsinki on ‘Men’s involvement in gender equality’. Finnish experts presented current policies/practices in the field and discussed the topic with other participating countries. Austria participated as so called ‘associated country’ in this seminar and presented the “Daddy’s Month” as good practice in the field. Nadja Bergmann attended the meeting as the Austrian independent expert and presented the Austrian “Daddy’s Month” together with the national representativ of the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection, Marc Pointecker. Nadja Bergmann prepared also a paper for the European Commission: “‘Daddy’s Month’ – A very first step to support men’s involvement in childcare”. In this paper she describes the “Daddy’s Month” and discusses the impact of it on men’s involvement in care activities.
