Compilation of figures, data and facts on the topic of gender equality in Austria
The legal equality between women and men in Austria, as enshrined in the Federal Constitution, has not yet led to de facto equality in all areas of life. The empirical presentation of differences and similarities in women’s and men’s realities and opportunities is an important prerequisite for increasing awareness of gender-specific inequalities, for making changes measurable and pointing out specific policy action fields related to gender equality.
To this end, a compilation of figures, data and facts on the topic of gender equality in Austria is being developed. The matter of gender equality is being examined by means of a large number of indicators that fall into the following six main gender equality dimensions:
- Gender-specific educational pathways
- Distribution of paid and unpaid work
- Socio-economic situation
- Health and care
- Representation and participation
- Gender-based violence.
The analysis uses existing data material. The focus lies on the structured presentation of the current status of gender equality and – to the possible extent – on mapping changes over time. However, this project also aims to identify any data gaps.
The project is being carried out on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Women, Family, Integration and Media in cooperation with the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO), the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS) and prospect Consulting. Mag.a Christine Mayrhuber, WIFO is responsible for the overall project management.
