Baseline study: persons with disabilities in Vienna

The aim of this research study was to provide a general quantitative overview of persons with disabilities in Vienna. To date there had been little relevant information, which is probably due to the fact that (a) disparate definitions of disability make a uniform approach difficult and (b) although individual organisations hold partial information on persons with disabilities in Vienna, no common standard exists for all this information.

In the framework of this study an approximate total number of persons with disabilities had been established by gathering all the different existing data on a person-based level under strict compliance with data protection principles. It was of special interest to determine which definitions are used by the individual systems/organisations in providing information on persons with disabilities.

In a further step social demographic data on the total number of persons with disabilities were disclosed.
