Social Situation of Artists in Austria

What
do the living and working situations of artists in Austria look like?

Update
of the study on the ‘social situation of artists in Austria’ from the year 2008

The
living and working situations of artists in Austria are often characterized by
precarious working conditions and uncertain income prospects. This was a result
of a comprehensive baseline study on the social situation of artists on behalf
of the Federal Ministry of Education, Art and Culture in 2008.

How
has the field changed over the past decade? Which developments have influenced
the working and living realities of the artists since then? And with which –
old or new – challenges artists have to fight today? These questions are
addressed by an update of the study, which is carried out in the consortium of
L&R social research and the ‘österreichische Kulturdokumentation’ on behalf
of the Federal Chancellery – Section Art and Culture. The study is not only
meant to reflect the status quo, but also to visualize developments and lessons
learned to be drawn from them.
