The paper titeled ‘We Have to Accept This’ – Retail Employees Under Pressure’ was published in the volume ‘Healthy and Socially-Sustainable Organisation of Work After the Pandemic’. It shows that gainful employment in the retail sector does not meet the requirements of democratic and socially-gainful employment. During the coronavirus pandemic, there was also gradual further devaluation of the working conditions of retail employees. Even comparatively, simple measures such as bonus payments were denied to sales staff while demands continued to increase and those employees with caring responsibilities in particular, struggled with (compatibility) requirements that were often no longer manageable.
