The paper entitled ‘We have to accept this’ – retail employees under pressure was published in the volume ‘Healthy and socially sustainable organisation of work after the pandemic’. It shows that gainful employment in the retail sector does not meet the requirements of democratic and sociable gainful employment. During the coronavirus pandemic, there has also been a creeping process of further devaluation of the working conditions of retail employees. Even comparatively simple measures such as a bonus payment were denied to sales staff, while the demands continued to increase and employees with caring responsibilities in particular had to struggle with (compatibility) requirements that were no longer manageable in some cases.
