📣🆕 Just in: The Danube4Rural.com preliminary report on the research study of individual characteristics of remote workers is now available online!

What do rural areas have to offer for a better quality of life? And is remote work the key to attracting more people to the countryside?

🔍 Through our research study, we gained a better understanding of how, by whom, and with what intention remote work is being used. We also explored the needs and wishes of remote workers that must be met for them to consider relocating to the countryside. By means of a transnational online-survey and in-depth individual interviews, we gathered valuable insights on remote work and rural life from more than 500 persons from across the Danube Region.

Life in rural areas is valued for convenient access to nature and the outdoors, cleaner air, and more peace and quiet. It is also prized for larger living spaces, which are often associated with better conditions for family life and an overall improved quality of life. At the same time, structural issues endangering the attractiveness of rural areas persist, mainly concerning limited or unreliable public transport, fewer job opportunities and limited access to basic services, cultural and leisure activities.

💡 Remote work offers the chance to save travel time, manage schedules flexibly, and leave big cities without missing out on career opportunities. By enabling more peace and quiet in a familiar home environment and an overall improved work-life balance, it can offer solutions to these issues and make living in the countryside a viable option.
