28.05.2026
The article entitled “Long-term unemployment in Austria: Opportunities and limitations for successful labour market integration” was published in the 286th issue of the journal “Die Österreichische Volkshochschule (ÖVH) – Magazin für Erwachsenenbildung”, which focused on “Vulnerabilities”. This article examines the risk factors as well as the enabling factors and opportunities for the successful labour market integration of the long-term unemployed. Long-term unemployment must therefore be viewed as a complex problem involving overlapping individual and structural factors. The article describes the four thematic areas identified in the study that have proven to be central to the labour market integration of the long-term unemployed. In addition, six primary main types and three complementary secondary types of long-term unemployed individuals are identified. Finally, resulting courses of action are presented.
