Is temporary work in crisis?
Current employment market data show that in phases of economic downturn the conditions are especially difficult for temporary workers. This study focused on the question of the permanence of temporary employment arrangements and the employment career of temporary workers and their individual handling of the currently tight employment situation.
More specifically, the study focused on the following aspects:
- Presentation of the current number of temporary workers in Austria (end-of-month data analyses) and analysis of the development of employment numbers in the previous years
- Analysis of the permanence of temporary employment arrangements
- Analysis of the process of moving out of temporary work with a focus on its “bridging function” (temporary work as a bridge to permanent employment)
- Demonstration of various individuals’ way of dealing with the tense situation on the employment market
- Satisfaction of temporary workers with this form of employment regarding working time, workload, assignment of jobs according to their qualifications, future employment opportunities
- Analysis of precarity as a danger for temporary workers
- Analysis of further education opportunities and further education activities for temporary workers
- Identifying international examples of the temporary employment situation in other EU member countries and of currently discussed possible solutions
