GEQ-AT Gender Equality and Quality of Life
It still cannot be assumed that gender equality has been achieved – at work as well as in private life. Thus, women still take on more of the household work and care responsibilities within a partnership or family. The GEQ-AT study will investigate the persistence of the model of the “male provider” and the “female caretaker” and what influence this has on the quality of life and, in particular, on intimate partner violence.
In this regard, the main question is whether equality within the partnership leads to fewer or no violent acts and what part childhood experiences of violence and equality may play. GEQ-AT thus offers an approach based on the complex interaction between gender equality in the three domains of childhood, family and working life, and quality of life and violence prevention.
A multi-method research design was used to answer these questions, whereby the following methods were applied:
- A representative quantitative survey (2,300 respondents)
- Qualitative interviews (60 persons).
- “Reflecting Groups” in all federal states (“Roadshow”)
GEQ-AT was based on the “Quality of Life” study from Norway (2007) as well as on the follow-up study from Poland (2015).
The study was realised in cooperation with the Institute for Men’s and Gender Studies, Elli Scambor and Oliver Posch. The Institute for Men’s and Gender Studies was responsible for the overall project management.
