Gender equality objectives monitor of AMS funding: Contribution of AMS measures to the positioning of women in the labour market

The Austrian Public Employment Service (AMS) has a long tradition of understanding gender equality as an integral part of its labour market policy and setting corresponding objectives in this regard.

Central content-related dimensions refer to equal access to employment that guarantees economic independence as well as the reduction of vertical and horizontal segregation in the training and labour market.

The AMS equality targets monitor was used to check whether and, if so, to what extent selected AMS services contribute to equality in specific areas, specifically with regard to

(1) employment (increasing female employment),

(2) unemployment (combating female unemployment),

(3) distance from the labour market (reducing the number of days in positions distant from the labour market),

(4) income (reducing income disparities) and

(5) sector (equal access to all occupations and particularly promising occupations).

Along these dimensions, the labour market policy effects for women participating in AMS programmes were analysed in a first step, followed by an analysis of the gender equality policy effects of these programmes.
