Development of the Vienna Equality Monitor 2026

Legal equality for all persons in Austria has not yet led to de facto equality in all areas of life. In order to develop and refine measures to improve equality, empirical findings on both the status quo and developments over time are necessary.

The Vienna Equality Monitor was first published in 2013 and has been published three times to date (2013, 2016 and 2021). Since 2021, the Vienna Equality Monitor has been presenting the development of equality via an interactive, database-driven website and along the central themes of equality. Using equality targets in twelve thematic areas, the Vienna Equality Monitor observes the status and development of equality between women and men in Vienna on the basis of a wide variety of data sources (primarily administrative and management data). In order to continue these observations, the Vienna Equality Monitor will be published again in 2026. Based on around 170 proven indicators, it will show the latest developments in Vienna. With the help of equality goals in conjunction with indicators from many areas of life – from the labour market to participation in education and political participation – the latest developments can be both presented and interpreted.
